Meet Will Richardson

The Will to Lead District 8

Will Richardson is a lifelong Memphian, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, a successful entrepreneur, a husband, father, and grandfather—and a leader defined by his unwavering commitment to Shelby County. Guided by the belief that “Where there’s a Will, there’s a Way,” Will’s campaign for County Commissioner, District 8, is built on the promise of practical solutions, community empowerment, and bold leadership for a brighter future.

A Life of Service and Determination

Raised by a single mother in North Memphis, Will learned early the values of hard work, perseverance, and faith. His journey took him from local schools to the U.S. Marine Corps, where he developed the discipline, teamwork, and sense of duty that have shaped every chapter of his life. After serving his country, Will returned home determined to make a difference—not just for himself, but for his neighbors and the next generation.

Will’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to launch and grow several businesses, including a home healthcare company that serves the elderly and disabled across Shelby County. As a business owner, he’s faced challenges head-on, learned from setbacks, and built opportunities for others. His experience managing budgets, creating jobs, and navigating tough decisions gives him a unique perspective on what it takes to move Shelby County forward.

A Champion for Community

Will’s leadership is hands-on and heart-first. He’s spent decades mentoring youth, coaching sports, and working with local organizations to deliver real solutions—from organizing water deliveries during crises to launching the InfoHUB, a platform connecting residents to education, job training, housing, and health services. He’s also a founding leader of Men of Impact, an initiative dedicated to mentoring young men and fostering a new generation of fathers, role models, and community builders.

The Will to Lead: A Vision for District 8

Will Richardson’s campaign is centered on three core priorities:

  • Public Safety & Modernization: Will is committed to making Shelby County safer by supporting community-based policing, investing in conflict resolution education for youth, and leading the effort to replace the aging county jail with a modern, humane facility that serves the needs of all residents.

  • Education & Workforce Development: Will believes every child deserves a strong start. He champions early childhood education, improved literacy and comprehension, and the return of vocational and trade programs—ensuring students graduate with skills for college, career, or entrepreneurship.

  • Economic Empowerment: As a small business owner, Will knows the power of local enterprise. He advocates for revitalizing downtown, supporting minority-owned businesses, and holding corporations accountable for creating job opportunities and investing in the community.

A Leader Who Listens

Will’s approach to public service is rooted in transparency, collaboration, and a deep respect for every voice in District 8. He’s committed to engaging with residents, listening to their concerns, and ensuring that the needs of underserved communities are always at the forefront. Will believes in creative, forward-thinking solutions—whether it’s exploring new funding models for major projects or partnering with cities across the country to bring best practices home to Shelby County.
